Getting started

Who can sign up?

Any UK General Dental Council–registered dentist, and the authorised representatives of UK dental practices. So Dental is a verified-only network — there is no public sign-up.

How does verification work?

Enter your GDC registration number when you sign up. We check it against the public GDC register. Once it comes back as registered, your account is verified and you can post, message, and apply for jobs. Verification is usually instant.

Why isn't my GDC number being accepted?

Three common reasons:

  1. The number you entered doesn't match the name we have on file. Make sure your name on So Dental matches your GDC entry exactly.
  2. Your GDC entry is marked as "erased" or "suspended". So Dental can only verify currently-registered dentists.
  3. The GDC register is briefly unavailable. Try again in an hour, and if that doesn't work, email support@sodentalnetwork.com.

Do I need a practice account if I'm an associate?

No. Associates sign up as dentists. Practice accounts are for the practice owner or practice manager to claim the practice's listing, manage job posts, and respond to applications.

Posts, comments, and images

Why is there a consent gate before I can upload an image?

So Dental is a peer network for professional discussion — not a clinical record system. Patient identifiable information must never reach the network. Before uploading you have to confirm:

  1. No patient is identifiable in the image.
  2. You have removed all metadata.
  3. You have the patient's documented consent to share the image with a closed peer network of dentists.

We also run automatic face detection and metadata stripping as a safety net. Both of these can reject an image; if that happens, the image is discarded and no other dentist ever sees it.

Can I delete a post or comment?

Yes. Tap the menu on the post or comment and choose Delete.

Can I edit a post after I've published it?

You can edit a post for up to 15 minutes after publishing. After that the post is locked. This is a deliberate choice — peer discussion gets confusing if older messages keep changing.

Direct messages

Can I message anyone?

You can message anyone you follow, anyone who follows you, and anyone you have a mutual connection with. To prevent recruiter spam there is a daily limit on unsolicited messages.

Can I turn off read receipts?

Yes. Settings → Privacy → Read receipts. Off by default.

Why was my message blocked?

The other dentist may have blocked you or set their inbox to people they follow only. We do not tell you which is which.

Jobs

Why are some jobs missing a salary?

They shouldn't be — every job listing on So Dental requires a published salary range. If you see one without a range, please report it (⋯ → Report).

What's the difference between NHS / Private / Mixed / Locum jobs?

How do I save a job for later?

Tap the bookmark icon on the job tile. Saved jobs live under Jobs → Saved.

How do I see my applications?

Jobs → Applied lists every job you've applied to and its current status.

Privacy and account

Where can I see what data you have on me?

Settings → Account → Download my data. We generate a JSON export of your account and email you a download link.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Account → Delete account. Your profile, posts, and messages are hidden from other users immediately. Underlying data is hard-deleted 30 days later.

Can I deactivate my account temporarily?

Yes. Settings → Account → Pause account. Your profile and posts are hidden but nothing is deleted. Sign back in to reactivate.

How do I change my email address?

Settings → Account → Email. We will ask you to confirm your password and to verify the new address by clicking a link we send to it.

Notifications

How do I turn off email notifications?

Settings → Notifications. Pick which types of email you want.

How do I turn off push notifications?

Settings → Notifications → Push in the app, or in your phone's Settings → So Dental → Notifications.

Trust and safety

How do I report a post, comment, dentist, or message?

Tap the menu on the item and choose Report. We review every report within 24 hours.

How do I block someone?

Open their profile, tap the menu, and choose Block. They will no longer see your posts or be able to message you, and you will no longer see theirs. Blocking is private.

Trouble signing in

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen tap Forgot password? We send a reset link to your email.

I'm not receiving the verification email.

Check your junk folder for an email from hello@sodentalnetwork.com. If it's not there after a few minutes, email support@sodentalnetwork.com and we will send a new one manually.

I'm locked out of my email.

Email support@sodentalnetwork.com from any account and we will help you recover access after we have confirmed your identity.
